Be Mine - Chapter#17

The very next morning, Amma-bi came to her room and ordered her to pack her stuff, she would be living in Ahad's house for some time. Shahina was taken back by the sudden order. She asked her the reason and what had happened yesterday but she didn't open up. Therefore, she did what she was told, as arguing was not a part of her personality.

Ahad and Kanwal welcomed her with open arms, but she could tell that there was something off. Yet she chose to remain silent. Days turned into weeks as Shahina aimlessly spent her time in Ahad's house because, unlike the Main House, she didn't have any responsibilities, nor did she have a piano which she could play. Shahina never built an interest in watching movies and drama, to her, it was a waste of time. All that was left for her to do now was reading but how much she could read?

Shahina called Amma-bi many times to inquire about the reason. Why was she living in Ahad’s house instead of her own home, and if the Main House was not safe for her, then why was it different for everyone else? But she never got lucky enough to have an answer.

Tired and annoyed with everything she finally decided to go back to her old routine, even if she has to face her sister daily. And now when she thought about the whole scenario, Shahina realized that what she did was stupid. No matter what, she was the sister of Moosa Khan, and her guardian was Ahad Murtaza. No one can mess with her, not even her blood relatives. So, what was she so afraid of?

Shahina called Kinza to tell her plans on which she gladly agreed. By the time of their last class, Shahina received a call from Natasha, who had been out of the country for quite some time. She told Shahina to have lunch with her and she thanked God for some change in her boring routine.

Natasha brought Shahina to her apartment after lunch, and it was tea time when she dropped a bomb on her of Moosa’s wedding. Shahina froze, unable to believe what she had heard.

"Api…?" She barely managed to say it, with a questioning look on her face.

“There are some other things you need to know.” Natasha raised her hand to stop Shahina from asking any more questions.

Shahina’s mouth was left ajar when Natasha told her that Moosa kidnapped the girl she intended to marry on her Nikkah and killed her husband. She knew Moosa as a man of reason, but in this situation, many things didn't fit right. Natasha explained the circumstances still, it was hard for her to digest.

Gingerly Shahina asked about the details of the woman Moosa intended to marry, and Nats told her everything. She also informed Shahina that she could go to the Main House after Moosa's wedding if she wanted to and then she got the idea why everyone wanted her to be out of the scene. They probably thought that Mahnoor’s condition might trigger her past memories. She smiled, thinking how overprotective everyone was, but again, what had been done to Mahnoor left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Shahina stared at Moosa's bride in awe, she was more beautiful than Natasha described, but her attention was soon diverted when someone approached her. On feeling a presence behind her, she turned around and came face to face with Yawar. Instinctually, she stepped back and looked around as if she was looking for an escape. Yawar quietly observed until her gaze came back to him.

“Now I understand why the Main House looked so empty.” Yawar said with a serious face and continued, “I couldn’t find a single chipkali (lizard) lately, perhaps they went with you.”

Shahina frowned and turned around to leave when she heard Yawar’s voice again, “Hope to see you tomorrow, clinging on kitchen’s wall.”

  1. If this is going to be the update frequency and length of chapters then it would take years to complete this book
